The History of the AEC
Our Story
Until 1978, the evangelical landscape in of St. Vincent and the Grenadines reflected a multitude of denominations as well as mission organizations, non-denominational churches and other associations working in total isolation from each other. Thus following the volcanic eruption of 1979, voluntary contributions from Christian organizations and churches across the Caribbean, the United States of America and Canada found no eligible hands to administer these resources. It quickly became clear that there was need for a clearing house with Christian values i.e commitment, compassion and integrity, to manage these resources; thus, AEC SVG was established. From La Soufriere in 1979 to hurricane Beryl in 2024 and everything in between, AEC has not faltered but grew stronger and stronger.
The Association of Evangelical Churches (AEC) of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) (not to be confused with the Evangelical Churches of the West Indies ECWI) is a member if the Evangelical Alliance of the Caribbean (EAC) which is a member of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA). Thus AEC is globally recognized and represented. The organization has three major objectives namely...
• To strengthen the Christian witness and work in SVG through national training efforts and bilateral support; (training in ministry, theology, administration, church and family life).
• To be a clearing house and response agency following disasters (supporting Caribbean outreach)
• To be the official voice of Evangelicals in SVG.
SVG is prone to natural disasters and has suffered from hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes, and volcanic activities and there are network members across the Caribbean willing to help. Against this complex background, AEC SVG is uniquely positioned to harmonize and amplify the evangelical voice and mission across SVG by serving as an administrative and development hub.
